Correa's Re-Election Poses More Challenges for Social Movements

Ecuador's leading social movements remain skeptical about whether Correa's re-election will translate into the deep social changes promised by the country's new Constitution. Ecuador's indigenous federations are still reeling from a bitter fight over a controversial mining law that the President pushed through the interim Congress in January. Many indigenous groups withheld their support for Correa in the April general elections, possibly costing his party a majority in the newly established unicameral National Assembly.

Abraham's Last Rap: Bolivian Hip-Hop Hero Dies in El Alto

El Alto-based hip-hop artist Abraham Bojorquez died early in the morning on Wednesday, May 20, in El Alto, Bolivia. He was killed when a bus hit him as he walking home. Abraham, 26 years old, was a member of the popular hip-hop group Ukamau y Ké. His music blended new hip-hop beats with lyrics about revolution and social change.

Job Opening: NACLA Web Editor
The North American Congress on Latin America (NACLA) seeks a part-time web editor to coordinate all aspects of the organization's online news content. Although advanced web design/coding knowledge is a definite plus, this job does not require extensive technical skills.

Primary responsibilities include coordinating all editorial content of the website, managing a team of volunteer Research Associates who remotely contribute articles to the website, managing and soliciting outside editorial submissions to the website, writing original articles for the site and monitoring independent media sites for articles on Latin America.

The position requires editorial and copy editing experience, compatibility with the goals and perspectives of NACLA, knowledge of Latin America and U.S. foreign policy, fluency in Spanish, excellent writing and editing skills, ability to work on deadline, and more.
