Fall or Spring Internship (in-person or remote)
NACLA offers a 5-10 hour/week internship opportunity for students who will receive course credit and/or funding from their educational institution for the internship as part of their studies. This opportunity is ideal for undergraduate students with an interest in alternative media, non-profit operation, and left politics and history in Latin America and the Caribbean. Candidates seeking in-person (based in NYC), hybrid, or remote work will be considered. Internship positions are unpaid. NACLA encourages interns to seek applicable funding from their institutions of study to support their work placement.
Eligibility:
- Currently enrolled in an undergraduate degree program, at least one semester prior to graduation
- Eligible to receive course credit and/or funding for the internship as part of studies
Skills and Experience:
- Strong research, writing, and grammar skills
- Experience with social media strategy (Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, TikTok)
- Familiarity with and an interest in current events in Latin America and the Caribbean
- Spanish and/or Portuguese proficiency considered an asset
Internship tasks will vary based on the interests and skills of the selected candidate, staff capacity, and the specific editorial and administrative needs of the organization at the time of the placement. Responsibilities may include:
- Editorial tasks such as proofreading, fact checking, translation, and/or research to support the production of the NACLA Report and web publishing
- Reader engagement tasks such as assisting with social media and/or keeping abreast of news in the region to support the development of the weekly content newsletter
- Administrative tasks such as database maintenance, office organization, and/or website cleanup
- Other editorial and/or administrative tasks as needed within NACLA’s small, non-profit, and collaborative work environment
Internship opportunities are available for the Fall and Spring semesters. Start and end dates are flexible and will be discussed with the selected candidate. Application deadlines are June 14 for Fall internships and November 15 for Spring internships. NACLA does not offer a summer internship at this time.

NACLA is an independent, nonprofit organization that has been a leading source of English-language research and analysis on Latin America and the Caribbean since 1967. Our mission has always been to publish historically and politically informed research and analysis on the region and its complex and changing relationships with the United States. Digital Archiving Internship
NACLA seeks a NYC-based undergraduate or graduate student to support an archival and public history project. As the NACLA Report on the Americas approaches its 60th anniversary, we are activating our rich archives to reach new audiences, develop educational resources, and celebrate six decades of left political analysis, reporting, and cultural criticism on Latin America and the Caribbean.
The digital archiving intern will work in collaboration with NACLA’s development associate and editorial team to help organize, digitize, and activate NACLA’s physical archive. Responsibilities will include cataloguing political primers from the 1960s and 70s, creating a digital archive of NACLA cover artwork, and conducting archival research to identify articles, photographs, illustrations, and ephemera for use in our 2027 anniversary programming.
The intern will work directly with NACLA’s physical archive, housed at New York University, helping identify materials that illuminate key moments in the organization’s history and exploring possibilities for public-facing projects, including educational toolkits, online features, and a potential exhibition drawn from the archive.
This is an in-person internship, based at NACLA’s office at New York University, requiring approximately 5–10 hours per week (July or September start).
