Read The First Story From Our New Environmental Reporting Series on the Caribbean

Dear naclistas,

This week, we're excited to launch a new online mini-series of environmental reporting on the Caribbean made possible by a grant from the Foundation for Sustainability and Innovation. Our first story takes place in Jamaica, where the sudden and overwhelming presence of a particular type of seaweed presents unique challenges for local residents.

Stay tuned for the next story in this series, which will explore wind energy farms and Indigenous rights in La Guajira, Colombia.

In solidarity,

NACLA Staff

P.S. We hope you and your loved ones are keeping safe in these trying times.

Blooms of smelly and unsightly sargassum seaweed have impacted the tourism industry across the Caribbean. Now, solutions must balance environmental factors and local livelihoods.
