The Diamond Ball

The Grand Ballroom of the Plaza will be the setting again this year on Jan. 24 for the annual Diamond Ball, which has traditionally drawn a sparkling array of political and business leaders and socialites to aid the Institute of International Education.

Heading the guest list for the ninth annual Diamond Ball are Vice President and Mrs Humphrey, Governor and Mrs. Rockefeller, Senator Mike Mansfield of Montana and Mrs. Mansfield, Senator John Sherman Cooper of Kentucky and Mrs. Cooper, and Mayor and Mrs. Lindsay will also attend the event launching the institute's 50th year of operations.

Mrs. Lyndon B. Johnson leads the roster of honorary patrons, which includes General Dwight D. Eisenhower and Mrs. Eisenhower and Secretary of State Dean Rusk and Mrs. Rusk. Also listed are John W. Gardner, Secretary of Health, Education and Welfare, and Mrs. Gardner, United States chief delegate to the United Nations, Arthur J. Goldberg, and 'W. Averell Harriman, Ambassador at Large.

Other honorary patrons are Mrs. Eugenie M. Anderson, United States Representative on the United Nations Trusteeship Council; Angier Biddle Duke, Ambassador to Spain; Winthrop W. Aldrich, former Ambassador to the Court of St. James's, and Robert D. Murphy, board chairman of Corning Glass International and a former diplomat. Senator and Mrs. Mansfield, Senator and Mrs. Cooper, Senator J. William Fulbright of Arkansas and Senator Karl E. Mundt of South Dakota.

The institute, with offices at 809 United Nations Plaza develops and administers programs of educational exchange for foundations private organizations, governments, colleges and universities and corporations here and abroad.

Mrs. Charles W. Engelhard chairman of the ball committee. Her co-chairmen are Mrs. George A. Braga, Mrs. Arthur A. Houghton Jr. and Mrs. Edward M. M. Warburg., Committee chairmen are Mrs.; Bernard Aidinoff, Mrs. Edward F. Hutton and Mrs. George D. Woods.

Committee members include Mrs. Walter C. Baker, Mrs. Richard Bernhard, Mrs. C. Douglas Dillon, Miss Mimi di Niscemi, Mrs, Henry Clay Frick, Mrs. Edgar W. Garbisch, Mrs. Samuel E. Gates, Mrs. Roswelll Gilpatric, Mrs. Andrew Heiskell, Mrs. James Hester and Mrs. Kenneth Holland.
