Notes on Puerto Rico

September 25, 2007

In the next two months there will be two opportunities for gaining an understanding of the Puerto Rican independence movement. Puerto Rico has been a US territory since 1898, yet most of us are quite ignorant of the shape of US influence and control there; nor do we know much about those Puerto Ricans who favor independence.

In early May, Alberto Prez, president of the Federation of University Students for Independence (FUPI) is coming to the US to speak to various groups. If you or your group would like to have him as a speaker contact: Mike Myerson, Tri-Continental Information Center, 1133 Broadway, New York 10010 (tel: (212) 242-6512).

Transportation costs outside NYC engagements should be arranged with Mike Mlyerson.

In mid-Hay, Juan Mari Bras, a leader of the Movement for Puerto Rican Independence (PI) will speak in New York City. Further details will be available next month.
