Sustainers - The Campaign Continues

September 25, 2007

While it is never enjoyable to be on the edge of financial disaster, our recent campaign to raise funds from Sustainers has been rewarding on a number of levels-besides the purely finan- cial. Particularly gratifying have been the numerous letters of sup- port we have received from groups which perform tasks similar to NACLA's. In the last issue of the Report, for example, we published part of a letter from a subscriber in the Netherlands who reprinted our request for help in De Groene Amsterdam- mer, an independent left weekly. Below, we are printing part of a letter we received from Latein- amerika Nachrichten, a German- language magazine which is similar to NACLA in many ways. We value these letters so highly not only for the sentiments they express, but also because they challenge the notion that progressive organizations are always competing with each other-for funds, readers, and support in general. We are pleased to note that this has not been our experience. We have now raised about 60% of our goal of $30,000. We I WANT TO HELP NACLA! We're close to making our goal-but we're not there yet. If you-or anyone you know-can help us, please do. We're counting on your con- tinued support to see us through this period. Dear friends, By separate mail, you should have received a copy of "La- teinamerika-Nachrichten" No. 78, which contains a translation of your four-page leaflet calling for financial help. Even though this help is not financial, we do hope it does not stay purely moral. We hope to read in one of your next issues how you are resolving your problems, and we wish you the very best. We are assiduous readers of your Report, both in- dividually and as part of our work "Lateinamerika Nachrichten" is what comes closest to your Report in the German speaking public-with still quite a distance in between. Nevertheless, all your financial and political problems are only too familiar to us. In solidarity, Tilman Evers Lateinamerika Nachrichten Berlin
