Javier Sicilia is the recipient of NACLA's "La Lucha Sigue" Award for Activism in the Americas. One of Mexico's most prominent poets, essayists, and novelists, and a regular contributor to La Jornada newspsper and Proceso magazine, Javier Sicilia's work has become an important reference for Latin American human rights causes. After his son, Juan Francisco, was murdered by drug gang members on March 28, 2011, along with six other victims, Sicilia founded the Movement for Peace with Justice and Dignity to denounce the murder of over 50,000 anonymous drug war fatalities, and to advocate for the end of the drug war.
