Announcing NACLA's 50th Anniversary Gala Speakers

We are pleased to announce the full list of invited speakers for our upcoming 50th anniversary gala dinner and fundraiser, which will take place at the NYU Kimmel Center on March 14, 2020. See below for brief bios of each speaker. If you haven't already, get your ticket and join us in solidarity for a one-of-a-kind evening of music, poetry, food, wine, and more!

Dr. Lorgia García Peña is an Afro-Latinx Studies scholar and Roy G. House Associate Professor of Romance Languages and Literatures & of History and Literature at Harvard University. She is also a founding faculty member of Freedom University, a modern-day freedom school providing education to undocumented students. Her most recent book is Borders of Dominicanidad (Duke University Press, 2016).

Ani Cordero is a Puerto Rican singer, composer, activist, and co-founder of Puerto Rican Independent Musicians and Artists (PRIMA), which has provided support to the artist community in Puerto Rico in the aftermath of Hurricane Maria. 

Jean Wyllys de Matos Santos is a journalist and author of five books. He holds a Masters in Letters and Linguistics from the Federal University of Bahia. Currently, he is a visiting researcher at ALARI at Harvard University's Hutchins Center. He previously held two parliamentary mandates for the defense of human and minority rights as the first openly gay Brazilian congressman to advocate for the LGBTQ+ community. He has been exiled since December 2018 due to death threats.

Javier Zamora is a Salvadoran-born poet, co-founder of the Undocupoets campaign, and author of the award-winning collection Unaccompanied (Copper Canyon Press). Most recently, he was a 2018-19 Radcliffe Fellow at Harvard University.
